Cryptocurrency Airdrop - Frequently Asked Questions

Here you are able to find common crypto airdrop related questions and their answers.
If you have further questions, you can contact us.

What is a crypto airdrop?

In the cryptocurrency world, an airdrop stands for free crypto tokens, which you can earn by doing simple tasks on different social media platforms. The provided tokens are given out by new cryptocurrency projects. Airdrops normally take place up 1 to 3 months before the ICO (Initial Coin Offering) of a project. The reason for an airdrop is that new projects want to increase their userbase. In addition, they also want to attract new potential investors for their upcoming project.

There are also airdrops for established cryptocurrencies, but they are less frequent. Airdrops, where you hold a coin, are more common. For this kind of airdrop, you hold a specific cryptocurrency at a defined time (called snapshot), you'll get a part of the newly created cryptocurrency, based on the amount you were holding and the defined ratio.

We find that Airdrops are a very good way to get an insight into the cryptocurrency realm for free.

Why do they give me tokens for free?

Their main goal is to get users who spread information throughout different social media channels about their projects. Mostly it's about sharing and liking posts on their social media channels. As you can see the tasks are quite easy to fulfill. Because of your support, more people will learn about their projects. This will raise awareness and attract new potential investors. A high user base and awareness have a positive impact on the token value. That's mainly the reason why they are giving you tokens for "free" - That's the way how they promote their projects!

There are different types of airdrops:

  1. Initial-Coin-Offering (ICO) Airdrops
These airdrops take place before the ICO (Initial Coin Offering). Such airdrops need a long time of period and can also be unsuccessful if the project doesn’t collect their Soft Cap in their ICO.
  2. Holder Airdrops
Companies will distribute tokens to their token holders for free. To benefit from it, you need to have a defined token at a certain time, so-called snapshot, in your wallet.
  3. Hard Forks - Not so common
Requires to hold tokens on the Original Chain. The most famous examples, for that kind of airdrops, are Bitcoin Cash and Ethereum Classic.

How can I participate in crypto airdrops?

You need different social media accounts and crypto wallets to participate in airdrops. Below you can find a list of the most important social media accounts.

Create a Crypto wallet
You need to create different wallets to be able to receive airdrops.
We would recommend you to have at least a wallet for ERC20 tokens (https://www.myetherwallet.com/). 90% of all Crypto Airdrops are created on the Ethereum Chain.
Beside of that, it's important to have an active wallet (at least a few transactions), many airdrops check for that, to prevent mass registrations of bots, which automatically create empty wallets.

Create Social Media accounts
We would recommend having at least the following Social Media Accounts:

  1. Telegram
  2. Twitter
  3. Facebook
  4. Reddit

Remark: If you have participated in an airdrop, never leave any social media channel before you've received the tokens of the airdrop, otherwise this can lead to disqualification.

Create an airdrop dedicated Email address
Create an E-Mail Address which you can use for Airdrops only. You should regularly check your mail account - often additional actions are required.

What's the difference between an airdrop and bounty program?

For an airdrop, you have to do an activity only once. After a while (mainly after the main sale) you will get your free tokens. Rewards are lower, due to lower effort.

For a bounty program, you are asked to do regular activities and you often have report all tasks which you have done to the project team to receive your tokens.
Bounty programs are worth more than airdrops, but the effort is not comparable. Please always keep in consideration, that some projects can fail. If that's the case you won't receive any tokens for the effort you've done.

When do I get my airdrop tokens?

Most of the time it takes 1-3 months until you get your tokens. We always try to give you an exact date as early as possible. The reason, that you have to wait, is that airdrops mostly take place before the ICO. Tokens will be distributed after the main sale. On our website, you can find our crypto airdrop calender.
If you do airdrops which are not listed on our website, you should regularly check your wallet. There are different types of tools existing. Never use your private key to check your wallet, there are easier ways (please check our link list below). Apart from that, you should keep track of joined airdrops and check for announcements, if the tokens have been distributed to all participants.
If you join the airdrops on AirdropBob, we will take over the big part of the work and will actively inform you about the airdrops you've participated in. All you have to do is to mark your airdrops as "favorite". So no more observing for you! We see this as one of our unique services - a nice advantage for you :)

Should I follow the news once I've received my tokens ?

In short, Yes!

We recommend doing so for several reasons.
First of all, there could be a release of the main chain, which requires you to exchange your tokens. Besides, its always nice to know, how the project is going. Maybe you can support the project somehow. At least that's our opinion. If you have joined any airdrop over our website, we will track the tokens. We also keep you up to date, if we notice any important changes about the listed projects. To be able to receive these updates, you have to add the airdrops to your "favorites". You will receive an email to your registered email address.

How can I store my earned airdrop tokens save?

So far, there is no problem to keep your crypto tokens in your online wallet, as long as you never share your credentials (beside of your public key). Nothing should happen. During the time your portfolio will grow in value. Therefore we would recommend - to move your tokens to an offline hardware wallet. This way it is nearly impossible to have your tokens stolen.

The best-known hardware wallet is called Ledger Wallet.
Please only order through the official website of Ledger Wallet.

As an alternative, we recommend the Trezor Wallet, which is a little bit more expensive.

Dump it or Hodl?

We prefer to hold our tokens.
We have made the experience that holding a token is a much better way to achieve good profits.
So please be patient and hold your earned coins. This way you'll support the project a lot more!

Where can I sell my airdrops?

More and more exchanges are popping out of the ground. Many of them are listing different tokens. You can check the market you are looking for on CoinMarketCap. In the beginning, most of the free earned tokens are not listed on big exchanges. So in the first period, if you want to sell your tokens, you can trade them through decentralized exchanges like Idex or Bancor.

For projects with high quality, the tokens will also appear on centralized exchanges.
Here you can find a list of the current biggest centralized exchanges here.

After your registration, you'll get asked to verify your self (KYC - Know Your Customer). Check out the exchange support site to find out your trading and withdrawing limits. Always activate 2FA (Two Factor Authentication) to make sure, your account doesn't get hacked.

How can I stay updated in the rapidly growing crypto world?

CoinMarketCap Coinmarketcap A great place to have an overview of the current exchange rates in the cryptocurrency market.
Coinvigilance Coinvigilance A nice news portal which gives you an overview of the cryptocurrency industry.
Coindesk Coindesk Do you search for cryptocurrency news, then you should check out coindesk.

Don't get scammed!

There are many people out there who want to scam and betray you. The most important rule is, that you never give your account data (private key, password) to anyone - The only data you can share without risk, are the public keys of your wallets!
Do not send any money to anyone! Airdrops are free and you should never authorize any kind of payment for it. Only do airdrops from trusted sources and always doublecheck the information!

If you follow these rules, you should be on the safe side:

  1. Do not share your private key!
  2. Never send money or tokens for an airdrop
  3. Create a new ethereum wallet
  4. Use different passwords
  5. Be careful with KYC airdrops
  6. Only do airdrops from trusted sites!

What does the star rating and your additional information mean?

There are three different perspectives:

First, you got the "validation", which is given in percentage. We look up all the information we can get, about the team, the advisors, the investors, about the project itself, and how they look concerning their roadmap.

  • 0% - Scam. don't join (we usually don't list those airdrops, but we update all the old ones, so whenever a project turns out to be a scam, we update the information as soon as possible)
  • 25% - looks scammy, a lot of information is missing, join at own risk
  • 50% - quite some information is missing, but team and project seem to exist, be careful
  • 75% - looks fine, but still, some information is missing
  • 100% - everything looks perfectly fine, don't miss out

As a second factor, you can find our "star rating" (1 to 5), which represents the value and input/output ratio of the airdrop, the amount of tokens you will get, and their estimated value.

The third factor is the "top rating" label. Only very few airdrops receive the "honor" to be top rated (you can find a red ribbon around the upper left corner of the airdrop symbol). This means, that both, "validation" as well as "star rating" is very good.

Top Example

Whenever you find a "top rated" airdrop, you should take your chances as fast as possible, in order not to miss your chance.
